Tremors felt in Singapore 10.25.10

I first saw this from @yhanie_17 tweet. I googled and found some entries online. A 7.7 magnitude earthquake hit western coast of Indonesia's Sumatra island yesterday but thank God no damage or casualties were reported.

Singapore also felt the quake last night at around 10:42 SGT. According to Channel News Asia, callers to their hotline said the tremors, which lasted about a minute, were felt in places such as Farrer Road, Cecil Street and North Bridge Road.

I think I was watching JL+AL's Imortal on TFC when this happened. It's scary. We live on the 8th floor and our building is in front of Pasir Ris beach though there has been no tsunami threat in Singapore but you can't blame me for being paranoid. I have a 2 year old daughter to keep safe.


I don't have control on any of these so I pray to the Lord that He always covers us.

Singapore haze 10.2010

Singapore haze reached the unhealthy level last week when the Government warned everyone to stay indoor. Those with conditions such as chronic heart or lung ailments may experience more discomfort because of this. Those without heart or lung issues may just experience eye irritation, sneezing of coughing. 

The haze started clouding the skies last October 16, I remember last Monday while waiting for the bus I told my husband what's up with the haze on the highway, he said it's just fog and we just realized it after a few days when haze reports were all over the news. 

I took some pictures on my way home last Thursday. I took this from the bus going home.

 This picture was taken October 21st from our flat, 9th floor of our building, around 5 PM

Haze in Singapore was attributed by the fires in Sumatra brought in by the prevailing southwesterly winds.Today, the Pollutants Standard Index (PSI) level according to the National Environment Agency of Singapore is at 37 as of 12NN which is on the acceptable level. I wish this smoke will all go away soon. It is really not healthy for everyone for little kids, old people and people who are already suffering lung and heart issue most specially.

The Philippines has a new President

My beloved country, the Philippines has its 15th president inaugurated today - BENIGNO AQUINO III. I was following it Live through ANC Live feeds, Twitter and Facebook. I was updating my facebook profile almost every 5 minutes of the latest happenings of the event. It was fun! I was excited and happy to witness this special event in our country although we are not physically there. We have been living abroad for almost three years now but our hearts and hopes still belong to our mother land. Definitely, no one can question that, there is no place like home.

Charice Pempengco sang the National Anthem and she sang it with the correct tempo. This has been a big deal lately because some artists (includes Arnel Pineda of Journey) who sang it during the Manny Pacquiao's fight, done it on their own style instead of sticking to the original tempo/beat (marching) of the song. So the National Historical Institute(NHI) is not happy, artists making it too ballad. -This is just side story.

Alright, so the newly inaugurated president had a 20+ minutes speech mostly in Tagalog. We have heard the synopsis of his plan for the country. We are hopeful that he can make a difference in the governance this time. We will do our part as a citizen. We hope for the better Philippines. We hope for a better future in our land.

God bless PRESIDENT NINOY AQUINO and VP Jejomar Binay. We pray to the Lord that He will guide you to honest and meaningful governance.

Singapore Freak Flood 16th June

Many areas in the shopping district were flooded this morning around 9.20am.

Large stretches of Evan, Stevens and Bukit Timah Road were flooding as well according to an online Straits Times report.

Traffic was impassable at some parts of Stevens and Evans Road as floodwaters went as high as half a metre, the report said. It also mentioned that shopfronts at Serene Centre, Bukit Timah, were affected by the floods.

AsiaOne reader "Beanie976" said in all the years they've worked at their office in town, it is the first time they have seen floods of this magnitude.

When contacted, a security guard from Palais Renaissance said that the flood behind Orchard Towers along Claymore Road has since subsided.

There was a sudden panic in our office. It's like everyone can't believe this has happened in Singapore. The peaceful, catastrophe-free (they say) country is experiencing this now. :D I called home when I saw the pictures online, I talked to my daughter asks if shes alright and she was just talking about her jellyace and that she already took a bath. They are safe. :D

But I was informed that last night these stores are back on track. As if nothing happened lights are on, everything is clean, back to business! Streets are all cleaned up. Now, that is Singapore.

MSN's i'm

Were you part of the MSN i'm messenger donation drive? I was. I was also working with MSN as tech support at that time so it's impossible not to get involved.

There was a list of organizations who were part of this and all you have to do is choose from the list your favorite org, get their organization code and add it on your MSN Messenger personal status message (PSM). I chose unicef that time (*unicef ).

So now they sent an e-mail that after 3 years of campaign it has ended but I am happy to be a part of  $3M worth of help to the needy. It was indeed a blessing to everyone.

P-3 to vote

So because I want to be involve and be part of the soon to be history of our country, I hurriedly went to the Philippine embassy last Friday before going home to cast my vote. Hurriedly because I was on half day at work and was suppose to be home asap as Hershey is not well and we might need to bring her to the hospital if shes still having high fever. But i thought that day will only be my chance so I took the train from the MRT station near our office (Raffles) then alight at Orchard station. Took the cab from Orchard to Nassim Road at 4 Sgd. But the other day I made sure I was on the list of voters before going to PhE, i found my name at the Singapore Pinoy Registered Voters ListWhen I entered the embassy, I was asked if I am voting so yes and was informed to enter the white airconditioned tent (parang ganito na tent na x2-3 ang laki), the receiving area, to start the process. When I'm in I was asked to show my singapore national ID (since we are permanent residents and this is the one i always bring along) or my passport. When my personal data was verified I was asked where did I know that they are conducting an election at the embassy? I was like, huh? Confused I answered, uuhmmm... I am a citizen and I know my right and we have tfc so we are quiet updated of what's happening back home. And where else will I think Pino abroad can vote? Are you serious with your question? Grrr. Never mind.

So I was informed to use the other door to exit and look for P3 to continue. Hmmmm... Para akong nasa adventure trek. So Philippines even when you are not really in the Philippines. *Sigh* This is my signage. A sign post nailed on this poor tree. They've got another one of this on a 2nd tree before I finally saw the entrance of P-3.

At last! But ooops, no picture taking allowed. Not good to know because I have a plan to blog about this experience especially how the Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machines really work. This is the first time the Philippines is using PCOS and Singapore is one of the lucky countries to try this out.

I went in and was briefly instructed how to do it. Fun! I was excited. I said to myself, this is it! I'm doing this for the love of my country. For the little hope I have that the Philippine will soon have the best leader there is.

Overseas absentee voting will be voting for Presential, VP, 12 senators and a party list. Easy. I don't have a list of senators and no choice of a party list yet. Honga pala, the absentee voting started last month April 10, Philippine Embassy Singapore have set a 30 days voting period for at least 31,000 Filipinos expected to cast their votes.

Okay so I was already holding the folder with the ballot. I chose the most private sit location because I will take pictures! :) And before I called Kuya to guide me on inserting the ballot into the machine, I took a pic. :) Who did I vote? Him. And it was because of conviction. I was looking for someone who is not corrupt, who is honest and God fearing so he is my super bet.

After roughly 10 minutes, I'm done. :)

 

And this is how the Philippine Embassy in Singapore looks like. We are not that far from home, really. kayang kayang mag tricycle or pedicab going here. LOL
